Calgary Flames defenceman Anton Babchuk has agreed to join Salavat Yulaev of the Kontinental Hockey League, according to sports.ru’s Igor Eronko.
Babchuk was set to become an unrestricted free agent this summer. A frequent healthy scratch , Babchuk only appeared in seven games this season and registered one assist. He missed the first month of the season with a shoulder injury.
The Flames acquired Babchuk along with forward Tom Kostopoulos from the Carolina Hurricanes in November 2010 for defenceman Ian White and centre Brett Sutter. Calgary signed Babchuk to a two-year, $5-million deal in July 2011.
The Kiev, Ukraine, native scored 10 goals and 38 points in 104 games with the Flames.
